| Hanuman
is the Monkey god of Hindu mythology, and one of the central figures
in the Ramayana. He was a guardian spirit, the child of Anjana the female
vanara and the wind god, Vayu. His great heroic exploit was recovering
Rama's wife, Sita, from captivity by the demon Ravana. Hanuman also
flew to the Himalayas and carried back a mountain of medicinal herbs
to cure Rama's grievously wounded brother Laksmana. Worshiped in the
form of a monkey, he is an important deity because of his strength and
his faithfulness to Rama.
The
Gada is carried on the right hand of Hanuman and is a symbol of self-sovereignty,
the authority of governance and the power to rule. The Gada is made
of plastic so is safe enough to leave your children to play with.
